Vertical Grain:
The finest cut, from the highest quality timbers. Vertical Grain Antique Heart Pine is the premium grade. This grade is often seen in narrow widths in townhomes in the oldest eastern cities, or in random widths in country manors. Vertical grain means that the lumber is all quartersawn, with the grain running vertically, or perpendicular to the plank face. Therefore this is the hardest and most stable cut of Antique Heart Pine to be found.
This premium grade floor will be 100% vertical grain and 99% heart content. In wider widths, you can expect to see a minimal amount of crowning or widening of the grain on the plank edge. This grade will allow for an occasional small knot or nail hole, though infrequent.
