INSPIRATIONS, Cochran’s Lumber was delighted to sit down with Steve Sertig, Owner of Superior Floors, LLC. We are proud to say that Steve has been a trusted customer of Cochran’s for over 25 years. Thanks to Steve, our flooring has been laid in many Northern Virginia homes including our popular ‘Desert’ Hickory. In addition, we also highlight a new home that features both our Horse Country Oak and Antique Oak flooring and an existing residence where the home owners included our Natural Hickory in their recent remodel.

Please give us an overview of Superior Flooring, Inc.

Steve Fertig, owner of Superior Floors, LLC, began working at the very early age of 4 with his father Carl Fertig and by age 10, was doing a great deal of work in his father’s floor business.  By age 16, he was managing crews and understood all aspects of the hardwood floor industry.  Later he started working for his brother, Glenn Fertig in 1981 before starting his own business, Superior Floors, Inc., in 1986 at age 26.

Superior Floors are true craftsman – installing and refinishing hardwood floors since 1986.

What distinguishes Superior Flooring from other hardwood flooring providers and installers?

We love wood and we only install and refinish hardwood floors. Steve was taught from a young boy the hardwood floor trade from his father and manages his business by his father’s business model – Do it right the first time. For over 30 years, Steve has tried hard to live by that motto.

Superior Floors installs and refinishes all types of wood floors – reclaimed, unfinished, pre-finished, engineered, etc.  We repair both subfloors when needed and existing wood floors, weaving them back into the existing floor. Our installers can scribe wood floors to stone walls and fireplaces, and can also install inlays, boarders and patterns. Superior Floors is a one-stop shop.

How long have you been a reseller of our flooring and what is unique about the materials you receive from Cochran’s?

We have worked with Cochran’s since they first started making hardwood floors, close to 28 years! We can guarantee that Cochran’s will provide us with quality products for our customers.

You recently completed a project in the Northern Virginia are that included one of our newest products, our Desert stain on Rustic Hickory. Please give us an overview of the project and why your client chose that particular type of flooring.

Our client choose this product with our guidance to compliment her existing rustic floor. She also wanted both a more durable and appealing floor, so she choose a custom milled solid 5″ pre-finished character hickory in a Desert color with a satin finish. We installed it in a diagonal direction to compliment the large room, and the results are spectacular!

What is your personal favorite type of flooring from Cochran’s Lumber?

Well, we can’t pick just one!

My personal favorite floors are

1. Wormy Chestnut, which gives a very elegant and beautiful appearance,

2. Horse Country Oak, for it’s character, durability and cost, and

3. Antique Oak Milled, which leaves enough character to give you that one-of-kind rustic look.

Rich and Rustic

This recently completed Loudoun County home features both our Antique Oak and Horse Country Oak flooring. Homeowners wanted a flooring that not only added character and elegance to their space, but also held up to the everyday wear and tear of both their two legged and four legged children.
