INSPIRATIONS

When homeowners take on the challenge of remodeling homes that are over a hundred years old, they turn to Cochran’s Lumber. From our expertise on matching existing floors to our complete line of new and reclaimed hardwood products, Cochran’s is proud to work with our clients to not only preserve history but also to create a comfortable and inviting environment they can call home.

For our September Inspirations Newsletter, we feature three such amazing remodels

Repurposing Barnboard at Hidden Creek Farm

When one of the old barns was taken down at our client’s farm in Fauquier County, they wanted to incorporate some of the salvaged wood into the remodel of the main home. The lumber was brought to our facility, where it was re-milled and lightly brushed, creating an authentic barn board backsplash for the kitchen and skylight. Several of the barn’s reclaimed beams were also used throughout the main floor. Not only did it add character to the home, but it also allowed our client to conserve the history of their farm.

Log Cabin Transformation

With the use of our TrueWood™ Engineered flooring, our client was able to turn their 1893 Nellysford, VA log cabin into a modern dream home. Complete with both functionality and flair, they chose our Engineered Antique Oak floors throughout, complimenting the rustic, farmhouse style that was preserved in every room.

“I wanted to try to merge the log cabin style with the farmhouse style and the antique oak floors seemed perfect. They had the rustic look but also worked well with the farmhouse style. We chose Cochran’s Lumber based on the quality of the samples that were sent to us along with the fact that Engineered Floors were an option. Part of the houses is on a concrete slab and we were unable to do solid hardwood flooring.

We are thrilled with how it looks!!” -owner

Virginia Farmhouse Remodel

Cochran’s Lumber was proud to work with our lovely clients on the total remodel of this simple, yet stately Civil War era home. We were commissioned to match the 150-year-old original heart pine flooring in the living room, where several pieces were rotten, and in the kitchen, which got a total remodel. The result is a beautiful farmhouse that their family will enjoy for many years to come.

“We certainly appreciate the floors, but most of all we appreciate getting to know the Cochran family. Thanks again for helping make our home beautiful and warm.”
