Solid versus Engineered Wood Flooring

Wood Flooring Options

When it comes to choosing hardwood flooring, factors such as subflooring and environmental changes can come into play. All of Cochran’s American Heritage or Reclaimed Flooring is available in both solid and engineered flooring.

Solid Wood Flooring

Solid flooring is just like it sounds. It is a solid piece of wood from top to bottom. Because of its thick wear layer, it will withstand the life of your home and periodic refinishing. It will also react to seasonal changes and will expand and contract based upon moisture levels.

Engineered Wood Flooring

Cochran’s TrueWood™ sustainably engineered wood flooring affixes a quarter-inch veneer of hand-finished wood to a plywood substrate (backing). Because of Cochran’s high-quality wear layer, our engineered flooring can withstand numerous refinishes. Engineered flooring gives the homeowner greater stability in terms of moisture control and allows for a variety of installation methods in areas that otherwise couldn’t support solid flooring. We are proud to offer our customers three engineered flooring options: 1/2″, 5/8″, and 3/4″ wear layers.
